British Workers Unhappy in their Current Roles

5th October 2011
Businesses looking to rent office space in Manchester have been warned to boost office morale if they want to retain their best staff.

The advice comes after the Happiness at Work Index from Badenoch & Clark found that almost a quarter of British workers are "distinctly unhappy" in their current roles.

Nicola Linkleter, managing director at the organisation, said employee motivation needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

"Coupled with a lack of tangible job security, happiness at work is remarkably low, and must be dealt with as a priority issue. Failure to do so may result in loss of talent, which in turn may lead to loss of potential revenue," she added.

The study found that the proportion of workers reporting high levels of morale has plummeted from 46.6 per cent earlier this year to 36.5 per cent this month.

A recent Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development study revealed that mounting workloads and job insecurity are the main contributors to dissatisfaction in the workplace.
