Office space in Birmingham and the superior transport network
3rd August 2010
When considering the most thriving cities in the United Kingdom, most people will immediately think of London, but can be quickly put off by the expense of living in such an important place. Birmingham is a very cost-effective and highly practical alternative, offering a vibrant location in the Midlands combined with a range of practical amenities that ensure corporate interest in the area remains high.
Many places have good transport facilities but Birmingham’s really is second to none, with rapid access to local, national and international travel opportunities quickly and efficiently. This is partly due to its central location and also its thriving part in the industrial revolution.
Rail facilities are superb; Birmingham New Street Rail station is a major hub on the UK railway network, and will benefit from a £500m investment project to modernise the facilities. Services are very frequent and offer many trains to London, allowing busy executives to quickly get into the capital. Local train services are also excellent, with outlying stations fully connected to New Street.
90% of travel conducted in Birmingham is by bus, which has resulted in a fantastic bus service that has stops all over the city. Over fifty operators offer bus services throughout Birmingham, and there is an express bus to the airport which runs every 15 minutes.
Birmingham is also a major hub on the National Express Coach network (the headquarters are located in the city). Regular services are available to London, along with all major British cities and airports. Many are cross-country services, and Birmingham acts as a useful interchange, providing residents and workers with a full choice of travel possibilities. Megabus also operates a service to London from Birmingham city centre.
Road facilities are extensive, with a number of important motorways providing rapid access from Birmingham and the surrounding areas. The M5 connects Birmingham to the South-West of England whilst the M42 connects the area to Tamworth and the East Midlands. Many major ‘A’ roads also pass through the city, including the A41, which links the area to both London and Birkenhead. The A47 takes traffic all the way to Great Yarmouth.
And for international travel, Birmingham International Airport is easily reached from all parts of the city and surrounding area. The sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom, it has regular flights to a wide range of areas including New York, Dubai and Toronto. This provides executives with easy access to the World’s most important cities, in addition to rapid travel to London when need be.
As you can see, Birmingham offers companies one of the most fluid, lightning fast transport networks around. It’s one of the reasons our office space in Birmingham
