Business rate hike possible for Norwich SMEs

Many small businesses in Norwich are bracing themselves for a significant increase in business rates by the Government; with some SMEs fearing the planned 5.6 percent April increase could signal the end of their business.

There are increasing calls from regional councils including Norfolk County Council, for the Government to change its tactics and to even consider reducing business rates in order to help provide long term stability to ailing businesses.

Local campaigners, such as Roger Pemberton, chairman of Norwich Lanes, believes now is not the time for the Government to be looking to raise cash through businesses that are already feeling the pinch in the current climate.
